Hockey: Dreadnaughts give state-ranked Chelsea a solid effort

For the second time in four days, the Dexter and Chelsea hockey teams met on the ice in an always important rivalry matchup. And while the results were pretty much the same, Dexter stepped up its game against the talented Bulldogs.

The Dreadnaughts have a new coach on the bench along with a young team and faced off against undefeated Chelsea on Saturday at the Arctic Coliseum. The Bulldogs (7-0-1) are currently ranked 10th in the state in Division 3.

Chelsea scored a 5-1 victory on Saturday after shutting out the Dreadnaughts 4-0 on Wednesday at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor.

The Dreadnaughts were very much in this game in the third period.

Let’s go through the scoring.

Chelsea’s Brandon Davis scored at 2:31 of the first period as the Bulldogs led 1-0 after one.

Jack Capper and Tyler Valik had second-period goals to make it 3-0 after two periods.

But Dexter’s Jonathan Rosevelt scored with assists from Gabe Burke and Dylan Hutchison to cut the margin to 3-1 with over 15 minutes left in the game.

Chelsea answered with a goal from Corbin Steele less than 2 minutes later to make it 4-1. Valik scored his second of the game to finish the scoring.

Dexter faces Pinckney on Wednesday in Chelsea.
