This past weekend both the Rolling Stones and the Dexter volleyball team hit the road and apparently both got plenty of “satisfaction” from the results.
On Friday, the Dreadnaughts travelled to St. Catherine of Siena Academy for a non-conference matchup. Dexter was St. Catherine’s homecoming opponent and their student section showed up in force to cheer on the home team.
But Dexter spoiled the party, winning three competitive games 26-24, 25-23, 25-23.
The Dreadnaughts got contributions from all over the roster including Bready Wineman (26 assists, 5 kills. 4 service aces and 11 digs), Mikah Salemi (7 kills, 5 blocks), Anna Creech (15 digs) and Veronica Sannino (25 digs).
On Saturday, Dexter travelled to the Lincoln Varsity Volleyball Tournament where the Dreadnaughts went undefeated and returned to Dexter with some well-earned hardware.
“It was a great weekend,” said Dexter Coach Paula Palmer Burns. “Our roster has stepped up to fill in roles due to absences and injury restrictions. I am so proud of every athlete.”
Starting the pool play with Blissfield, Dexter dominated 25-17, 25-13. They then defeated Dearborn 25-18, 25-23 and finished pool play by beating former SEC White rival Tecumseh. 25-17, 25-15.
The Dreadnaughts entered bracket play with a bye and met Pioneer in quarterfinals dominating in straight sets 25-12, 25-11.
Dexter had a rematch with Tecumseh but with similar results. The Dreadnaughts won the semifinal match with 25-13, 25-15 wins.
Dexter then met top-seed and host Lincoln in the finals. They battled back from being down in the first set to win 25-23 and then sealing the championship victory with a 25-20 set.
The Dreadnaughts are now 20-2 on the season.

Crucial contributions were made by sophomore setter Lana Burns, outside hitter Lily Burns. Defensive specialists Lia Demerell and Maria Demerell made it possible to have success at the end of a long day as everyone contributed to Dexter’s championship run.
It’s only volleyball, but the Dreadnaughts, apparently like it, like it – yes they do!
