Track & Field: Dexter hosts 20 teams for annual April Showers Relays

Dexter hosted their annual April Showers Relays on Saturday, with warm weather, fast times on the track and great performances in the field. No team scores were kept among the 20 schools invited, but there were several Dexter athletes placing in the meet.

Starting off in the field events for the boys was Cole Sheldon winning the Long Jump with a leap of 20’4.5”. James Livingston placed in two events, taking 3rd in the Discus with a toss of 133’9”, and was 4th in the Shot Put at 42’8.25”. Sam Fitzpatrick jumped 5’10” in the High Jump to finish 6th, and Dexter placed 4 in the Pole Vault. Clark Sheldon finished 3rd at 13’0”, Barrett Keller, and Benjamin Sackman both went 11’0” to finish 5th and 6th respectively, followed by David Burby at a tie for 8th at 10’0”.

On the track for the boys, Cole Cabana was 4th in the 100, at 11.41, and Josiah Hayter was 8th in the 100m Hurdles at 17.49. The 4×800 was 7th, with the team of Josh Lamb, Alex Hoffman, Owen Ackerman, Brandon Anderson crossing the finish at 8:27.66.

On the girls side in the field events, Jamie Giese won the Shot Put, breaking her own school record, with a heave of 38’5” and took 7th in the Discus at 88’9”. Teammate Katie Krueger was 5th in the Discus at 93’0”. Pole Vault saw Sophia Mettes winning at a jump of 12’0”, and Ellie Manly at 9’6” for 5th.

The Lady Dreads were busy on the track as well. Gracie Burns was 3rd in the 4oom with 1:02.23 and was part of the 4×200 relay that took 6th. Her and teammates Hannah Berenson, Brooklyn Whitehead, and Gracyn Beck clocked in at 1:56.06. Burns was also on the 4×400 relay that was 7th, along with Hannah Berenson, Cecilia Tagliabue, and Ashley Mitchell, running a time of 4:20.43. Mitchell was 8th in 800 at 2:26.24, and Hannah McComas was 8th in the 1600 at 5:32.33. Both McComas and Mitchell were members of the 4×800 relay that took 3rd along with Kate Varitek, Amanda McGill crossing the finish line at 10:09.61. The 4×100 relay was 7th at 55.38 with Gracyn Beck, Emily Kate Covert, Ellie Manly, Brooklyn Whitehead.
