Equestrian: Small Dexter team comes up big in first competition of the year

The Dexter HS equestrian team competed in their first Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association (MIHA), District 7, competition last weekend at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Belleville.

Dexter’s team is small in comparison to the other competitors with only two riders, junior Nigel Makin and freshman Kera Root; however, the Dreads did not disappoint.

Root placed second in both Equitation Over Fences and Flag Racing.  Makin and Root nailed the first-place spot for Two-Person Relay.  As a team Dexter finished third overall.

The Dexter team competes again on Sept. 18.
