Water Polo: Dexter’s late comeback falls just short at Lake Orion

Host Lake Orion led 9-4 after two and 11-7 after three and held on for a 13-11 win over Dexter in a non-league water polo match last week.

The Dreadnaughts started slow, committing several penalties resulting in kick outs and 6 on 5 advantages for Lake Orion. By the third period, the Dreads were playing much better but couldn’t erase the deficit in the final period.

Dexter came alive in the third period with strong defense, steals and blocks in the field and outstanding goalie play by senior Griffin Patel to keep Dexter in the game.

When the forth period came around, the boys looked strong. Continued excellence from Griffin in goal (13 saves on the night) and clicking on offense with assists and shots on goal, they closed the gap to one goal with under 1 minute to play in the game. Lake Orion sealed the deal with an insurance goal.

Dexter gave Lake Orion a man advantage seven times on the night (mostly in the first two periods) while Dexter only had one opportunity for a 6 on 5 advantage with the ejection of a Lake Orion player being drawn by Ben Curtis in the 4th period.

Chance McArtor and Liam MacNeil each had three goals for Dexter. Grady Wheeler and Matthew Resende each had two goals. Wheeler and Ben Curtis each had two assists.

Dexter was without Otto Krueger, their leading scorer on the season.

Upcoming schedule is as follows:

Tuesday 9/20 AA Skyline @ Home

Tuesday 09/27 Saline @ Home

Wednesday 09/28 Chelsea @ Home
