Ann Arbor celebrating Earth Day April 22 with activities and events

Hello and Happy Earth Day from the Office of Sustainability and Innovations,

Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22nd – and we have a lot of exciting events and announcements to help celebrate!

First, we hope that you will join us at Ann Arbor’s Earth Day Festival 2023! The festival will be held on Sunday, April 23rd from noon until 4:00pm at Leslie Science & Nature Center (1831 Traver Road). This free, family-friendly annual celebration is coordinated by a planning committee consisting of local government and non-profit entities. This year, the festival will feature entertainment from Marsha Mumm and the Pontiac Trail Blazers, the annual All-Species Parade, and over 20 exhibitors! Be sure to stop by the A2ZERO booth to learn about our programs and make some crafts. Learn more about the Earth Day Festival here

We also hope that you will join us and the University of Michigan graduate student delegates to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change for a COP27 Debrief and Panel on April 25th at 6pm at the AADL Downtown Branch. This event will include a debrief of the major highlights of the conference, key takeaways from the negotiations, and what they mean for Ann Arbor. The panel will include an extensive Q&A section. Please RSVP here – you can also find a QR code linking to the registration form on this flyer.

The 2023 Commuter Challenge is here – and you can sign up now! The Commuter Challenge runs May 1 – 31 and the goal is to help community members become more inclined to commute via walking, biking, carpooling, vanpooling, and taking the bus – and continue to do so after the competition. People who work in the greater Ann Arbor area can log trips and join teams with coworkers to earn prizes for using alternative modes of transportation for work trips. Sign up by visiting www.CommuteAndWin.org. Learn more by watching this video explainer

Finally, join us for this month’s 2023 Sustainability Series forum on Wednesday, April 26th! This month the topic is “Renewed Renewables: The Bright Future of Renewable Energy in Ann Arbor.” Register here to join us in-person at AADL Downtown or online via Zoom.
