Lacrosse: Skyline boys defeat Dexter; girls fall to Pioneer

On Wednesday, May 10, the Skyline boys’ lacrosse team hosted the Dexter Dreadnaughts at Eagle Stadium. The Eagles came out blazing, scoring four goals in the first quarter and only surrendering one. The second quarter saw things even out with Dexter notching two and the Eagles one.

Skyline entered halftime with a 5-3 lead. The teams split the third quarter with each registering one tally and the Eagles entered the fourth quarter, leading 6-4. Dexter made things exciting when they scored early in the fourth to narrow the Eagle lead to one, but that was the closest they would get and senior Mitchell Westhoven scored the lone Eagle goal in the fourth to seal the 7-5 win. eading the scoring for the Eagles were: Westhoven (2), Sperendi (2), Stille (1), Waterhouse (1), and Newton (1).  Prior to the game, the team recognized the accomplishments and contributions of their seniors pictured above: Derek Bukowski, Tommy Fry, Ilan Reichbart, Evan Rothenberg, Mikes Sperendi, Ben Stille, Shravan Swaminiathan, Finn Waterhouse, Mitchell Westhoven, Steffan Westhoven, Zack Wiebe, and Max Wiley.

On Monday, May 8, the Eagles travelled to Toledo to play St. Francis De Sales in a non conference game. The Knights proved a formidable opponent, controlling possession and dominating the scoring. Seniors Miles Sperendi (1) and Mitchell Westhoven (2) were the only Eagles scorers in the game and the Knights took the match, 11-3.

GIRLS LAX

Skyline’s girls’ lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season against cross town rivals, Pioneer. Trailing the entire game, the Eagles lost 12-8.

Multiple goal scorers included leading scorer Reagan Masek with 3 goals, Coco Courtright and Cami Wiseman both with 2 goals and Cate Howard added 1 goal.

On Wednesday, the team headed down to Bedford to take on the Mules winning 20-2. There were a variety of goal scorers across the board including Dylan Schueler, Cassie Gonzales, Coco Courtright, Molly Greenberg, Reagan Masek, Emma Stroud, and Lilly Shannon. Senior goalie Sydney Bryant unpadded and played some attack for the Eagles adding another goal.

Regionals are just around the corner for the varsity team as they got the #2 seed in their bracket. Their first two round of regionals is hosted at Skyline starting the week of 5/22.
