Two AAPS high schools achieve top ten rankings in Michigan by U.S. News

Recently released U.S. News 2023-24 Best High School Rankings again demonstrate the quality educational experience and performance of Ann Arbor Public Schools High Schools.

Two Ann Arbor Public Schools high schools have achieved top ten rankings in Michigan in the U.S. News 2023-24 Best High School Rankings, and four high schools are highly ranked.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is the only district in Michigan to have more than one high school ranked in the top 10 state rankings.

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Four AAPS high schools ranked in the top 15 percent of the nation. AAPS high schools continue the trend of high achievement in this rigorous national comparative assessment of high school programs.

In the latest rankings, AAPS Skyline High School placed 6th in Michigan, was ranked 62nd in the nation for Magnet Schools and 109th in the nation for STEM High Schools. Skyline was ranked 10th in the state in the 2022 rankings.

Also earning high marks in Michigan:

AAPS Pioneer High School ranked 10th in the state, moving up from 22nd in 2022 rankings,

AAPS Huron High School placed 27th, moving up from 34th in 2022 rankings, and

AAPS Community High School was ranked 59th in Michigan.

Achieving these U.S. News distinctions of excellence, based on six areas, including the indicator Underserved Student Performance, a measure assessing learning outcomes only among Black, Hispanic and low-income students, represents a particular milestone of achievement performance. This achievement is a direct indicator of the dedication of our AAPS team to ensure equity, opportunity and excellence in education for all students and marks progress in our continuous improvement work to ensure we serve all students well.

U.S. News and World Report clarifies their ranking of high schools in this way:

A great high school educates all students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation. The highest-ranked U.S. public schools in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 Best High Schools rankings are those whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores in an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.
