Boys Track & Field: Local teams compete at SEC Red league meet

The Saline Hornets racked up 138 points to finish first at the SEC Red Division league meet on Thursday, May 9 at Monroe High School. Huron edged Dexter by two points to grab second place. The River Rats crossed the finish line with 85 points, two better than the third-place Dreadnaughts.

Pioneer took fourth overall with 76 points followed by Bedford (73), Lincoln (69), Skyline (62) and Monroe (41).

Huron’s Elijah Hayward had a strong showing in the sprints. The senior was third in both the 100 meters (11.54) and 200 meters (22.76). Huron’s Charlie Garner was fifth (11.66) and Georgio Pitts was seventh (11.72) in the 100 meters. Pioneer’s Justin Pacernick was fifth (23.22) and Skyline’s Emanuel Morrell-Weston was seventh (23.55) in the 200.

It was an Ann Arbor finish at the top of the 400 meters. Skyline senior Henry Shaieb was first in 49.39 followed by Huron’s Kinley Poole (49.82) and Skyline’s Leland Weiser (50.28). Pioneer’s Pacernick was fifth (51.80).

Pioneer’s Eric Overdier was fourth in the 800 meters in 1:58.37 and teammate Liam Bredeweg was sixth in 2:01.09.

Overdier was second in the 1600 meters in 4:25.40. Skyline’s Mason Jett was fourth (4:30.77), Pioneer’s Vincent Peterson Sand was fifth (4:34.35) and Huron’s Lucas Weintraub was sixth (4:35.64).

Pioneer sophomore Beckett Crooks was second (9:26.06) in the 3200 meters. Skyline’s Luke Suliman was seventh in 9:48.57.

In the 110 hurdles, Skyline’s Traci Lincoln was sixth (16.58). In the 300 hurdles, Pioneer’s Jack Van Ryn was third in 40.82.

Huron ran second in the 4×100 relay in 43.75. Skyline was second in the 4×200 relay in 1:30.51 followed by Huron in 1:31.96.

The Skyline team of Leland Weiser, Emanuel Morrell-Watson, Mason Jett and Henry Shaieb was first in the 4×400 relay in 3:24.82. The Pioneer team of Vincent Peterson Sand, Liam Bredeweg, Quinn Davis and Eric Overdier won the 4×800 relay in 7:59.70. Skyline was second in 8:03.36.

Skyline’s Lincoln was seventh in the shot put (40-7). In the discus, Pioneer’s Jack Van Ryn was second (147-3) and Skyline’s Jayden Scott was fourth (140-10).

Defending state champion Andrew Harding won the high jump (6-10.5) for Huron. The River Rats took the top three spots with Camron Dew second (6-4) and Charlie Garner third (6-0). Pioneer’s Rob Lewis was fifth (5-10).

In the pole vault, Pioneer’s Sam Shemke and teammate Asher Morgan tied for fifth (10-6).

Huron went one-two in the long jump with Charlie Garner (21-11) and Angelo Rivera (20-8).
