Dexter and Skyline put a gold star on strong seasons with impressive showings at the MHSAA Division 2 Swimming and Diving State Finals last weekend at Oakland University. U-D Jesuit touched first with 305 points with Byron Center second (256.5) and Birmingham Seaholm third (207).
Dexter finished 10th with 100.5 points, Skyline was 12th with 72 points and Ann Arbor Greenhills was 14th with 65 points.
The Dexter team of Anthony Kopinski, Lucas Coy, Owen Dauw and Jude Smith took 10th with a time of 1:37.64. Greenhills’ team of Christopher Gregg, Jeremiah Green, Alex Tishkowski and Lukas DeGiuli was 12th in 1:38.59.
Skyline senior Owen McKelvey took third for the Eagles in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.09. Dexter sophomore Kopinski was seventh (1:43.72) and Greenhills junior Tyler Dillman (1:45.21).
Gregg took seventh for Greenhills in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.53.
Smith was 12th in the 50 free for the Dreadnaughts with a time of 21.86.
Skyline senior Stuart Knight was fifth in diving with 456.15 points.
In the butterfly, Greenhills’ Green was 11th in 52.52.
Dexter’s Smith continued his strong showing by taking 11th in the 100 free in 47.75. Skyline’s Robby Shannon was 14th (48.25) and Greenhills’ Dillman was 15th (48.76).
Dexter senior John Haidl was seventh in the 500 free in 4:43.52. Dexter freshman Graham McCarthy was 14th (4:51.11).
Dexter’s 200 free relay team of Coy, Smith, Steven Merz and McCarthy touched fifth with a time of 1:27.76. Skyline’s team of McKelvey, Henry Strait, Wesley Jenkins and Robby Shannon was 11th in 1:29.29.
McKelvey wrapped up his impressive individual high school career by placing second in the backstroke for the Eagles with a time of 49.80, an All-American Consideration time. Kopinski was 10th for Dexter in 53.00.
The Greenhills team of Dillman, Elliott, Green and Gregg touched seventh in the 400 free relay in 3:14.25. Dexter’s team of McCarthy, Dauw, Haidl and Kopinski took 10th (3:14.94) and the Skyline team of Shannon, Connor Zillich, Jenkins and McKelvey took 12th in 3:16.02.
