Swimming: Dreadnaughts “impressive, confident” against state’s best program

The Dexter women’s swim and dive team competed against Pioneer High School on Thursday evening, resulting in a 151-35 victory for the Pioneers. Despite the loss, the Dexter Dreadnaughts showcased impressive performances, securing two new qualifying times for the upcoming Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association meet.

“Pioneer is one of the top teams in Michigan, so we anticipated a challenging meet,” said Dexter Coach Michael McHugh. “I was impressed by how strong and confident our girls swam. We also took the chance to try out some different events, and they performed exceptionally well. I’m really proud of their effort and achievements.”

Kayce McAllister earned a third-place finish in the 200 Freestyle, qualifying her for the MISCA competition. Meanwhile, Harper Brown achieved a fourth-place finish in the 50 Freestyle, also meeting the MISCA qualifying standard.

The relay team of Harper Brown, Rebekah Murillo, Emma Bishop, and Emily Weiszhaar placed fifth in the medley relay.

In individual events, Elena Ragnes finished 16th in the 200 Freestyle, while Emma Bishop secured sixth place in the 200 Individual Medley, with Delia Smaby following closely in seventh. Grace McClellan finished sixth in the 50 Freestyle.

In diving, Ellie Saah placed fourth, Maddie McGuire fifth, Lexi Gramling seventh, and Reagan Goldstein ninth.

In the 100 Butterfly, Rebekah Murillo finished seventh, with Grace McClellan taking ninth. Weiszhaar and Ragnes finished seventh and eighth in the 100 Freestyle, respectively. In the 500 Freestyle, McAllister secured third place, with Brown finishing sixth.

Dexter’s relay team of Rebekah Murillo, Grace McClellan, Emma Bishop, and Kayce McAllister finished third in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Additionally, divers Maddie McGuire, Lexi Gramling, Reagan Goldstein, and Elena Ragnes teamed up to achieve an eighth-place finish.

Delia Smaby finished 12th in the 100 Backstroke, with Weiszhaar placing 15th. In the 100 Breaststroke, Murillo took fifth and Bishop seventh.

In the final event of the night, the Dexter team of Harper Brown, Grace McClellan, Kayce McAllister, and Delia Smaby finished fifth in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
