Track & Field: Skyline runs at Region 5 Championships at Saline

The Region 5 Championship went off Friday, May 19th, in Saline. While the weather held out for most of the field events, it became a downpour for the track events with standing water needing to be brushed off the inside lanes before night’s end. Regardless of the weather conditions, our Eagles had outstanding performances with 2 school records being set, 2 Regional Champions being crowned and 11 total athletes qualifying for the State Meet. Our Men’s team finished third in the region out of 16 teams and the Women finished 8th. The top 8 in each event earned team points, medals and All Region honors.

Hamza Basal, after missing most of the season due to injury, took home the Regional Championship title in the Long Jump as well as qualified for the state meet in the event.  Nico Fry set a PR and is the Regional Champion in the 1600m. He also qualified for the state meet in both the 1600m and the 4x800m.   Henry Shaieb set school records in both the 200 Meter and 400 meter sprints and qualified for the State meet in the 400 meters. Chris VanLent, Mason Jett and Aidan Hale all qualified for states in the 4x800m relay. Luke Suliman qualified in the 3200m.

Leading the way for the Lady Eagles, Caroline Vance qualified for the state meet in 3 events: 1600m, 3200m, & 4×800 relay. Natalie Kessler qualified in the 800m and the 4x800m relay. Ayla Balazer and Allison Mayer advance to States as part of the  4×800 team.

The Track & Field State Championship will be held in Rockport on June 3rd. Good luck to our Eagles as they prepare for the big event!!
