Dexter’s Brandon Anderson won the Division 1 Regional at Springfield Oaks last weekend and helped lead the Dreadnaughts to the MHSAA State Finals on Saturday at MIS. Dexter finished second overall with 78 points.
Skyline will join their SEC rival at the State Finals. The Eagles landed third with 103 points, just nine points ahead of Howell. The top three teams at Regionals qualify for the State Finals. Brighton, one of the top teams in the state, finished first in the race with 33 points.
Anderson, a senior who qualified last year as an individual, ran a time of 15:43.81 to win the race. Brighton’s Tyler Langley was second in 15:49.69 and Skyline senior Luke Suliman continued his outstanding season with a third-place time of 15:51.82.
The Dreadnaughts had a strong showing at the top of the lineup with two other runners cracking the top 20. Juniors Julian Linebaugh (14th, 16:50.58) and Elijah Smith (16th, 16:58.08) had impressive runs to the finish line. Junior Scott Smith was 23rd in 17:10.31, junior Caleb Snyder ran 24th in 17:10.47, senior Sam Gibson was 28th in 17:19.73 and senior Jack McCalla was 29th in 17:22.28.
The Eagles also ran strong up front with senior Mason Jett landing in eighth place with a time of 16:21.48 to give Skyline two runners in the top 10. Sophomore Bruno Cifaldi ran a 17:09.58 to run 22nd, freshman Matthew Guikema was 26th in 17:14.88, junior Jack Robichaud was 44th in 17:55.40, freshman Nicholas Yuan was 49th in 18:03.29 and sophomore Zeke Lafferty was 55th in 18:19.22.
Pioneer
Kamari Ronfeldt, only a freshman, won the D-1 Regional at Lake Erie Metropark and helped lead the Pioneers to a dominant first-place finish and earn a trip back to the State Finals at MIS.
Pioneer scored 29 points, easily outdistancing Saline (58) and Allen Park (105) to the finish line.
Ronfeldt won the race in 15:20.0 with Saline senior Truman Johnson second in 15:37.3.
The Pioneers had two other runners – senior Vincent Peterson Sand (third, 15:45.1) and sophomore Beckett Crooks (fourth, 16:03.1) – land in the top five giving Pioneer quite the one-two-three punch.
Sophomore Theo Sacks-Thomas was 11th in 16:30.6, senior Patrick Donoghue was 12th in 16:32, senior Eric Overdier was 16th in 16:41.7 and senior Joey Stevenson was 19th in 16:48.6.
Huron
The River Rats finished fifth at the Willow Metropark Regional with 164 points. Northville took first with 30 points, followed by Canton (53) and Plymouth (76).
Junior Walker Brose led the River Rats with his time of 16:40.20 which landed him 23rd in the competitive race. Senior Lucas Weintraub was 26th (16:49.30), senior Henry Beard was 28th (16:59.7), senior Liam Ridenour was 40th (17:22.90), sophomore Thomas Conley was 47th in 17:36.80, sophomore Jamal Samaha was 49th in 17:41.9 and junior Jonah Kraft was 54th in 17:51.9.
